The BAE Roadshow

Wow!  What a start to a drizzly Tuesday morning.  The team from BAE systems, Keira, Matt and Leanne, came in to talk maths with the KS2 children.  They had a robot, magic tricks, balancing acts and nearly blew the children away with a giant propeller.  Thanks for all coming in and sharing your love of maths and engineering.  It was inspirational.

  1. Today we had a visit from the BAE Roadshow. The reason we had a visit from them is because it is the 100 anniversary of the RAF. We learnt why maths is important in many different ways. We really enjoyed our visit it was so much fun.

  2. This morning a group of air force mathematicians came to tell us about how they use maths in their everyday life it was very interesting and we conducted a few experiments such as a 21 card magic trick; a drainpipe friction experiment; and a weight balancing task. It was very fun and interesting, I think it inspired a lot of people to like maths.

  3. Today 3 people from BAE Systems came in to talk to us about maths. They came to visit us because it was it was the RAF’s 100 anniversary. A lot of you think maths is boring but it is actually really important, if we didn’t have maths a lot of things will be very different. Thank you for coming it was really inspiring and very helpful. We all had the time of our lives it was so fun.

  4. Today we had the BAE come to visit us and tell us about working as an engineer and included a lot of fun facts about the work of and engineer. We learnt that the aircraft carriers had to be balanced out in order so it doesn’t weigh too much so it just tips over , and also learnt that maths is very very useful as an engineer and pretty much everyday things in life , knowing that there is a lot of maths included , we also had a robot that came out too see us and work out a calculation that was very tricky to solve just in your head , and that’s because of how the robot was made , it had various mathmatitions making it and programming it to work out various calculations that the human brain would find extremely difficult to work out . We also watched a lot of videos involving maths and the distance and height you would have to position a pool after riding a slide that had to be positioned correctly by maths or it would be hard floor for you. After all of the videos we had people going up in the front to work out a lot of math equations to find out, how to balance out an aircraft carrier to make it so the aircraft carrier wouldn’t just sink into the ocean and everyone on board would have to get off the carrier. A card trick that amazed us all in the hall and the person up on the front of the hall , we also worked out the distance of a silver ball that we and to work out the distance that it would get and then it would go into the bucket that was on top of the persons head but after we did it the person that works with the BAE caught the ball to save anyone getting hurt they all got so scared because of it being a heavy silver ball about to drop onto the persons head well hopefully into the bucket that will not get the ball to hit their head through it . After that the BAE had to go and then we went out to break.

  5. Rauceby school children walked into their “thought to be normal” assembly to find the smell of petrol and three awaiting special guests. From BAE systems, Keira, Matt and Leanne came to demonstrate the wonders of engineering. And they did a brilliant job of it too! Just by showing off their robot, doing a simple magic trick and literally blowing us away with a soon-to-be used machine, they made us think twice about our thoughts on engineering. Thanks to Keira, Mark and Leanne to giving time out of their day to see us!

  6. Today we had the BAE come in to our school and teach us about all the fascinating things about engineering. There where three people that came in to our school, one of them brought in a wonderful piece of engineering called the paraglider, a paraglider is a way of flying, it uses a large propeller at the back and a parachute to create the lift, we all thought it was a great invention. BAE taught us that without maths some of the stuff we use every day would not work. They also brought a robot in and asked the robot to solve a bunch of calculations that the human brain would find it very hard to solve on its own. The robot also preformed the thriller dance in front of everyone in the school hall. We conducted a very exciting experiment, it was to do with one of the navy’s aircraft carriers and how it could balance with more weight on one side, we found out that if you halve the weight of the planes that it is carrying. We all learnt a lot of stuff about engineering. Thank you BAE!

  7. Today we had an amazing experience when engineers Matt, Keira and Leanne they showed us a robot called Maya it work out maths calculations and it could even dance! We also did loads of experiments to show us that maths connects with engineering.

  8. Today KS2 started a ‘normal day ‘ with an exciting assembly. We had three people called Keira ,Matt and Leanne. They brought a robot called Mia who could do long multiplication in her head and dance . They also brought a paraglider which blew us away . Thank you BAE we enjoyed it tremendously.
